We started out as four propeller-heads, knowing that we could make a difference. Today, we have a team of 18 ecommerce specialists, working with online retailers to increase their sales & reduce operational costs.
Where it began.
In 2005, Metakinetic was founded by Darren Bull and David Mash. But that's not where the story really began. In 1997, several years prior to forming Metakinetic, David and Darren's paths first crossed, when they headed up one of the largest ecommerce operations of its time - the company was Creative Labs. Responsible for what can only be described as one of the first online brands to successfully venture into ecommerce, Darren, in charge of the European Internet operation and David, instrumental in running the technical CRM side of the business, together grew the online turnover to record highs.
The birth of the business.
Convinced they could apply their expertise to other online retail businesses, in 2005, David and Darren left Creative to form their own web development company. Metakinetic was born!
As with many start-up businesses, they worked hard to win projects that would turn an idea into a viable business. It wasn't long before they won their first client, and very quickly were joined by two ex-Creative Labs developers, Stuart Hunt and Rob Browning.
Achieving focus.
The business grew from strength to strength as the team delivered hugely successful and often incredibly technical web projects. Building each website from scratch became the only way Metakinetic could be sure of delivering the quality they wanted for their clients; no existing ecommerce technology was up to the job.
It was that determination to always provide the highest quality ecommerce solution that enabled Metakinetic to find its niche.
A niche that needed to be served better and more efficiently;
A niche at the time that was largely being ignored;
The niche? Small and medium online retailers.
In 2007, MetaCommerce was born.
Following in depth research and meticulous business planning, the Metakinetic team invested more than half a million pounds in salaries alone over a three year period, in order to develop an ecommerce solution that gave online retailers the flexibility to have a unique, tailored ecommerce solution, which was not only an affordable solution, but that would allow rapid deployment and would rival the creativity, functionality and support of any bespoke ecommerce solution available on the market.

They already knew they were good at ecommerce. After all, they had been responsible for one of the world's earliest ecommerce success stories. After developing MetaCommerce, Metakinetic began to focus increasingly on ecommerce, applying the team's extensive expertise and experience to a wide variety of scenarios, achieving great results for many happy clients and using the core MetaCommerce solution to reduce deployment times and continually improve the ecommerce technology available to all clients.

Every single one of the original retail clients is still a client of the business today. And with a team of 18 ecommerce specialists, Metakinetic is a growing voice in the world of ecommerce, writing for key industry publications such as Direct Commerce Magazine & Econsultancy, judging the Webawards and working with retailers from a wide variety of industries, from sport and fashion, through to farm produce and technology.
We continue to develop our ecommerce solution, MetaCommerce, and have regularly released technology upgrades, which are made available to all clients without charge. We focus on quality of service and customer care. We work closely with each and every one of our online retail clients to deliver an increase in ecommerce sales and a reduction in operational costs.
